SPECIAL CERRADO 11 DAYS/10 NIGHTS

Trip description

In this trip we will see the endemic birds and some of the most enigmatic mammals of the Cerrado, also known as the Brazilian Savana. During 11 days we will visit three protected areas in the state of Minas Gerais: Serra do Cipó National Park, Serra da Canastra National Park and the Santuário do Caraça Private Reserve.

The Serra do Cipó National Park has a size of 31 thousand hectares and is part of the Espinhaço Range. This region contains the transition between two very important biomes: Cerrado and Atlantic Rainforest. The flora of this region is also known for its richness and high number of endemic species belong to the Rocky Fields (Campos Rupestres), a landscape composed mainly by grasslands and rocky outcrops.

The Serra da Canastra National Park was established in 1972 with the main purpose to protecting 197 thousand hectares in the main spring of the São Francisco River. The landscape is very beautiful, in one of the most beautiful scenarios is the Casca D’Anta, the first waterfall from the San Francisco River, with almost 185 meters high. The park consists of a typical Cerrado, where you can see over 350 species of birds, such as the Brazilian Merganser and several wild animals such as the Maned Wolf and the Giant Anteater.

Our final destination is the Santuário do Caraça Private Reserve, an ancient convent that served as the inn for travelers on the XVIII century along the Royal Road. Nowadays the structure of the old convent is a hotel in the middle of a 14 thousand hectares of protected area. The flora is characterized by the transition between the Cerrado and the Atlantic Forest. This place is also the best destination to see the Maned Wolf.
