Overview

Located to the west of the Andes is the Chocó, one of the most biodiverse biomes in the world that extends from eastern Panama and descend along the Pacific slope in Colombia and has its southern limit in Ecuador. This biome of forest ecosystems can be found from sea level to about 1,000 meters in altitude, where it intergrades with the Tropical Andes. It is in this transition zone that the Mindo region is located, famous for its high biodiversity of plants, mammals and birds, of which approximately 13% are endemics!
